Hi and welcome from the Webfairy (kd for short) smileylayingdownlaffingROFLHBO

First let me welcome all the new comers since June. We hope you find all that you need and want here at the Water Fowl Meeting Place. And will visit often to read and share your "Fowl" experiences.

MONTHLY NEWS POST/LETTER (SEE POLL/VOTE PLEASE)
I am going to try to do one of these on a monthly basis if ya all would like that.
Or if ya all would rather have a monthly news letter and that e-mailed to you we can do that too. If ya all want a monthly news letter then we will also put in the highlights from the posts in it. (Boy, there I go with another project on my plate. LOL)
But with this new forum I can e-mail it to all that are members and maybe keep folks updated and bring back the once-in-a-while posters.
See poll for your vote on this.

NEW ALBUM/FOLDER ON ALBUM SITE
I have made a new folder on the album site called: 3_water_fowl_stories.
It is for all the Internet news and stories that come our way on the forum. Just an easy place to find them at a later time.
Toulouse's link and story is the first one on the new album: Click here to go to album

INPUT ON THE NEW FORUM THAT IS NOW 2 MONTHS OLD
Ok, we have now been using this new forum for 2 months.

**********1. Attaching Pictures
I know that there have been snags in the "attaching of pictures".
Sometimes it works and sometimes (as ya all are pulling out your hair ) it does not work.
Here is how it works.
The pictures are uploaded via FTP to the Album Site. This is the album that they go to: all_attched_files album
I have noticed that when ya all have had problems the picture is uploaded and on the album but not showing on the forum for some reason.
The first thing when having problems with "Not Showing"
*****a. click on this link: all_attched_files album and see if the picture uploaded.
****1. If it did then click on the thumbnail to get to the large picture.
Then right click on the picture and go down to "properties"
Click on "properties" and the little window that opens
(IE Browsers: go down to the "Address (URL)" and to the right of that copy the URL of the pic.
NOTE: at the end of the URL DO NOT COPY THE "? & numbers" at the end)
( FireFox Browser: go down to "Image Properties" and then below that to "Location" and on the right copy the URL of the pic.
NOTE: at the end of the URL DO NOT COPY THE "? & numbers" at the end)
***a. Now go to you post and click the picture link at the top
and insert the URL link of the picture.
NOTE: DO NOT GO DOWN TO THE ATTACHMENT BLOCK AND DELETE. IF YOU DO IT WILL REMOVE THE PIC FROM THE ALBUM AND NEITHER WILL WORK.
****2. If it is not on the album then i suggest that you give the attachment another go.

**********2. Error Messages
Since we are uploading all attachments to the Album Site you might get an FTP error message and that is because Fotki is or might be down for maintenance. Also the forum is now on my Domain (blackkats4) and if for any reason i need to do maintenance and disable the forum i will let ya all know a head of time. But the Hosting Server for the Domain is "Hosting Insiders" and they could go down for server maintenance (but I have never encountered this from them so it is very rare..)
so if you ever get any error messages please note them and IMMEDIATELY e-mail or pm me with the information so I can look into it.

**********3. Avatars and Signatures
For either one.
If you want a picture from the Album Site (yours or someone else's (please ask the album owner first) )
*****a. click on the album that holds the picture:
****1.Right click on the "thumbnail" picture and go down to "properties"
Click on "properties" and the little window that opens
(IE Browsers: go down to the "Address (URL)" and to the right of that copy the URL of the pic.
NOTE: at the end of the URL DO NOT COPY THE "? & numbers" at the end)
( FireFox Browser: go down to "Image Properties" and then below that to "Location" and on the right copy the URL of the pic.
NOTE: at the end of the URL DO NOT COPY THE "? & numbers" at the end)
***a. Now go to the forum and at the top of the page click on "Profile" Profile
MAKE SURE YOU ARE LOGGED IN FIRST. A new window will open with your profile panel in the "Home" page.
Go over to the tab "profile" and click
The new page will have 4 tabs under the main Tabs.
** Avatars
1. Click on the "Avatar" tab
2. Go down to the box to the Right of "Link to off-site Avatar:
3. Enter the URL of the location containing the Avatar image you wish to link to." and paste the URL you got from the Album Site.
4. Click Submit and you are done. The new picture will be there and linked from the album site.
If you want one of the "Will Bill" pictures then just click Show Gallery at the bottom and click on which one you want for an Avatar and then click submit on the Avatar page..
** Signatures
1. Click on the "Signature" tab
2. down in the text box do as you would for any of the FONT functions that you would use in the Posting Page on the forum. see buttons at top of the text box.
a. for picture just click the Img button and paste the URL you got from the Album Site.
3. Click Submit and you are done. The new picture will be there and linked from the album site.

**********4. Profiles
I HIGHLY SUGGEST that you spend some time in the PROFILE pages and see what all you can do and set to customize your forum experience. If you have any questions about anything in there just HOLLER...:) There are some functions that I have set that you can not change Like the "Board Style" but other than that you can change most every thing else. .

**********5. Stickies and Announcements from Boards
Please keep posting Announcements and Stickies on the WFMP and Cooking Channel Boards and if they have to do with the running of the Forums in General i will leave them on for about a week and then transfer them to The "All the Forum Information and Help Posts from WFMP" and the Index will be here at the end of this post as an IFRAME for easy access from the forums.

Well, that should take care of most the questions and snafoos ya all have been having and have posted about.
If there is anything else that you are having problems with
(NO do not even mention "slow loading" you dial up guys and girls. i am on Dial up now and again will say that --- either i have more time ( which we all know is true) -- just a good Dial Up provider -- pick my time to be on in not a PEAK time for the server--or multitask while i wait for a page or website to load. these all have allot to do with the loading of any web site. Including the Album Site which is so Picture heavy and still loads fairly fast. )
or something you would like the forum to do that it doesn't already, please let me know.

Quick access to Board Information.

Thanks sis! as long as we have all the instructions in one post now, can we get rid of some the stickies up on top!? Please it would make getting to the posts so much faster. You are a glutton for punnishment with all the ideas you have for this board! but we love you anyway! glad you are back and safely too. I decided that I am putting in a driveway alarm so I can know when you arrive here sooner! smileylayingdownlaffingROFLHBO

Well, most of the instructions (along with what is in this post) are posted in the stickies and on the The Board Information, Testing and Feedback Index

If ya all promise to use the Indexes and Links I will move everything concerning the workings of the forum to "The Board Information, Testing and Feedback Index" Infact i will do that now and make just one post that has that page in an IFRAME so it is easy to get to.

because I think I'd chose a different option. That is, I think an occasional (i.e., when you feel like it) newsy sort of email sent to all registrants would be nice and may get some folks to come back to check things out. But I don't think you should tie yourself into doing a monthly anything. Sometimes you're busy and sometimes there isn't much to report. An email that just puts a few lines of a few posts with links to the forum for the rest would be nice as a test to see if it would get folks to stop in. But if it doesn't work, you should feel free to abandon the idea too. That's my two cents.

And I love the fewer stickies. When you were gone I tried to figure out how to combine some but was too dumb. I think the stickies can be confusing to new people (or people like me! ) so I really appreciate you slimming it down.

figureing out how to move posts can be daunting to even me. LOL

If you go down to the end of the page when you are in the topics page at the bottom on the right you should see "You can moderate this forum"

click on that and go through the Topics to see what may not belong to the Waterfowl forum. you tick the box on the far right of the topic and go down to the bottom of the page and click "Move" a window will come up with all the forums on it and you just pick the one you want to send the topic to. it askes if you want to keep a shadow on the board and that should be checked so that it leaves the topic title but when you click it it takes you to the forum where you moved it.

If you are in the Topic page with all the replys:

THERE ARE 4 BUTTONS ON THE LEFT AT THE BOTTOM. "DELETE" "MOVE" "LOCK" AND "SPLIT"

IF YOU CLICK ON THE SPLIT BUTTON
the page will come up with all the threads for that topic.
you will see a little box to the far right of each post click on which ones you want to split from the origianl post.

at the top give it a new title/subject name
under that is a drop down list of all the forums including the one that the post is in. You can choose any forum and then submit.

If you had posted the Duck story in the other post I would have gone in and split it from that topic and made a new post.

DON'T WORRY ABOUT PLAYING AROUND WITH IT IF YOU NEED TO . NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TILL YOU CLICK THE LAST SUBMITT BUTTON.
YOU CAN CLICK THE WINDOW x UP IN THE RIGHT TOP CORNER AND CLOSE THE WINDOW AT ANY TIME AND NO CHANGES WILL BE DONE.

JUST MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT PLAY WITH THE "DELETE" lol
